Faune et flore :
La Gabinière est connue pour sa profusion de mérous. Ceux-ci évoluent généralement entre 15 et 25 mètres. On peut facilement en croiser une dizaine lors d’une seule plongée. Les murènes et congres sont égalements présents, tout comme les chapons et rascasses. Cette plongée se fait parmi des nuées de poissons : banc de castagnioles, sars, bogues, oblades, mulets et loups. En se retournant vers le bleu du large, on voit d’énormes daurades et sérioles en pleine chasse. Depuis l'été 2001, un immense banc de barracudas d'environ 200 individus croise dans les parages vers 10-20 m.
La flore est aussi magnifique : parois d’anémones jaunes encroûtantes et d’éponges. Beaucoup de nudibranches : doris dalmatiens, flabellines. Il n’y a pas de corail rouge, même en profondeur, à la différence des fonds marseillais. Ceci est dû à la nature de la roche : du schiste pour Port-Cros et du calcaire pour Marseille. Les gorgones rouges et jaunes sont omniprésentes mais depuis fin 1999, il faut descendre vers 35-45 mètres pour pouvoir en admirer qui ne soient pas nécrosées.
